What is the difference between a traditional Ceramics Studio and an All-inclusive Contemporary PYOP Ceramic and Glass Studio?
GREAT QUESTION!
In a traditional ceramics studio you would pick out the item you want in green ware or slip would be poured into a mold to create your item. Then you would very carefully clean up the green ware by smoothing out the rough edges and lines caused by the molding process. (Carefully because green ware or unfired ceramics are very easy to break if your not verrry careful). The cleaned piece of green ware would then be fired in a kiln to create your piece of bisque or raw unpainted ceramics. It is then ready to be painted. In most cases you would be charged for different stages. Sometimes there are Studio time fees, paint fees sometimes even brush fees and kiln fees.
At Blue Frog Arts here in Elberton Georgia, we don't charge paint fees or studio time fees for painting ceramics or working with glass. Our ceramic pieces are ready to paint prefired bisque. You just come in anytime we're open and pick out a piece of ceramic you like, a plate, bowl, piggy bank, box, figurine or any of the many, many other items we have to choose from, sit down and relax.
We provide the paints, brushes and help when you need it. We provide everything you need to have great fun! We have books and an idea area for inspiration. We even do the clean up! After you finish we dip your work of art in clear glaze and fire it in our kiln. You simply come back the next week to pick it up. We also have the same procedure with our glass and you don't have to wait for a class just come on in and start creating your masterpiece.

Three different ways to PYOP at BFA
Glazes: for items such as plates bowls coffee cups etc. Items painted with glazes must be fired in a kiln to make them food safe.
Acrylics: for non food items statues, figurines, piggy banks, tiles. These items can usually be taken home the same day after spraying. Just allow 24hours for the spray to dry completely.
FasheNhues: Translucent colors, best for non food items like figurines with lots of details. Item can be reworked as much as needed until sprayed.

Blue Frog Arts has adult and children's art classes in various subjects which depending upon community demand and teacher availability. Everything from general art classes in the fall for kids to summer camps, basic drawing and different painting classes for adults and teenagers and children.
